Useful tips for visiting Cape Town
- December is high season for the locals. Be sure to meet loads of visitors from 'up-country' during their annual southerly migration.
- Protect your skin from over exposure to UVA & UVB rays by wearing waterfproof sunscreen with a high protection factor of 20+.
- South Africans do not mind visitors taking photos, but it is good custom to show your respect by asking permission to do so.
- Make sure to taste some 'Snoek', a coldwater line-fish, caught in the Southern Atlantic waters.
- Don't stare at Capetonians adding copious amounts of ice to their white wine during summer.
- 10% tipping for good guiding and waitering is customary.
- 'Baie dankie' or 'Thank you' in Afrikaans, is pronounced almost the same as " buy-a-donkey".
- Appeltizer and Grapetizer are great local soft drinks, bottled locally in the Cape.
- Castle Lager or Black Label are the two most popular local brews.
